Another beautiful, antique pocket watch, this Illinois Bunn Special is from 1918 and in great condition inside and out! This is such a special timepiece because, as an American railroad watch, it had to uphold a standard of timekeeping within 4 seconds per day, or 30 seconds per week. This is tighter tolerance than COSC Chronometer certification. The Illinois Bunn Special is the most collectible pocket watch.
The dial is excellent- a beautiful white ceramic dial with bold, black Breguet numerals, black and red Arabic minutes with stick indices, and a sub second dial at the 6 position. All hands are a blued steel spade shape showing light patina.
The movement is a manual wind, grade Bunn Special, model 9, size 16s, with 21 jewels and has been adjusted for temperature and six positions. It is openface with a stem wind and lever set, and the balance wheel has a double roller. The crystal is plastic with a screw-on cover and a screw-on caseback.
The movement is signed Bunn Special, Illinois Watch Co., Springfield, 21 Jewels, Adjusted Temp. and Six Positions, 3326369 and Double Roller.
It is cased in a very attractive 10K yellow gold-filled case with art deco engraving on the edges. The case exterior shows light wear, but no brassing. The inside of the caseback is signed Keystone Watch Case, J. Boss, 10 K Gold Filled, 9770781.
It is coming with a very sturdy, functional chain in great condition. The top clasp of the chain shows some wear, but functions as intended.
This antique Illinois railroad pocket watch is still running and keeping great time at 104 years old! This beautiful piece of history will make an excellent addition to any railroad watch lover's collection!
