The Story

MIDO
Ocean-Star
Automatic Watch

Mido, Swiss watches since 1918, company funded by George G. Schaeren, a Swiss watchmaker an experienced and ingenious Swiss watchmaker. From the start, the name Mido comes from the Spanish 'Yo Mido' meaning "I Measure".

In the 1920's, Mido introduced ladies watches with color-enameled shaped cases and modern straps as well as timepieces for gentlemen in art deco style. In 1954 the firm launched the world's most efficient winding mechanism and in 1959, the MIDO OCEAN STAR marked the introduction of the revolutionary single-shell case, eliminating any water-resistance problems from the back of the watch case. The combination of this technology with the aquadura crown sealing system makes Mido watches withstand even the most severe conditions. For over a century, Mido has been a global benchmark in Swiss made mechanical watches.

This is a stunning timepiece, a vintage Mido wristwatch dated from the 1960s. It is an automatic watch caliber 1147OCD (AS 1831), sweep second, day/date calendar, 17 jewels movement, Swiss made. Beautiful and unique black and diamond dial, day/date indicator, gold hands with the Mido name on the dial. Very nice round case in yellow gold plated. It is coming with a brand new black alligator leather strap. After +50 years, it is still in LOVELY condition. Runs very well, keeps great time.

Vintage watches are traditionally smaller than today's watches. Men's watches typically measure between 29-36mm (some larger, some smaller) wide excluding the crown. In the listing details we typically try to do our best to list all pertinent dimensions of a watch. If you don't see it, or we failed to do so, please reach out to us. Women's watches from the 1900s-1970s were also somewhat smaller than today’s offerings in many cases. Please also feel free to ask any questions you have pertaining to size.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust light, when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.

The condition is pre-owned.
The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended.
See all the photos, feel free to ask questions if you have any.

It will be carefully packed.
